United States Tennis Association (USTA) Georgia has announced its recipients for its 2015 awards given for outstanding achievements in tennis both on and off the court. Twenty-seven categories of winners were recognized during the USTA Georgia Community Tennis Development Workshop at the Atlanta Perimeter Marriott Hotel.
Ann Hortman & David Araiza
David Araiza, Tournament Director and Ann Hortman, Event Director accepted the Wheelchair Tournament of the Year award for the Clocktower Classic Wheelchair Tennis Tournament. This is the second consecutive year the tournament has won this award, and the tournament’s second year in existence. Local community involvement, including volunteers from CVTA and the Rome Tennis Academy and local sponsors partnered with event organizers to host a top-notch tournament.
“We are thrilled to be recognized again by our colleagues in the tennis community,” said Hortman. “To be honored for a second year in a row is a testament to the commitment of our partners, volunteers and staff; who not only make this tournament possible, but make it outstanding.”
Tres, Gabby, Jennifer & Eddie Gonzalez
The James Kincaid Family Award for Family of the Year was presented to the Eddie Gonzalez family of Atlanta. This award recognizes a family who actively participates in junior tennis by running programs, tournaments or player development, either as players or volunteers. Eddie is a native of Rome.
Selected winners were nominated as candidates by their peers. The winners were then selected from among the nominees by volunteer members of the Awards Committee.
USTA Georgia is the largest state association in the USTA servicing over 50,000 individual members and 200 organizational members. The volunteers and staff of the USTA Georgia are committed to maintaining the organization’s leadership role within the USTA in an effort to “promote and develop the growth of tennis” throughout the state.
