The 2016 and 2017 USTA Southern Junior Team Tennis Section Championships will be played at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College. The annual tournament draws about 60 teams from the nine states in the USTA Southern division, which equals about 500 players, according to Ron Cioffi, director of communications for USTA Southern.
That means the championships could bring a total of 1,500 people to Rome and Floyd County during the three-day tournament.
“The city of Rome is honored to host the 2016-2017 USTA Southern Junior Team Tennis Section Championships,” said Rome City Manager Sammy Rich. “Rome has a rich history steeped in tennis, and we are so excited to be able to show off what makes Rome one of America’s great tennis towns. I can think of no better way to inaugurate our brand new center than hosting the tournament.”
