Rome Tennis Center at Berry College

To celebrate the grand opening of the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College and the nation’s largest hard court facility, a full schedule of events is planned for the opening on Friday, July 29, 2016.

To help introduce the tennis facility to the public, activities are planned for all ages and include structured on-court activities, tennis games, equipment demos and a one point tournament.  Additionally, family centered fun includes face painting, tennis paint ball art, and a photo booth. The public is invited to participate in the full line-up of activities slated to begin in the afternoon and will run into the evening.

Individuals and families will also have the opportunity to learn about upcoming tennis programs, classes, events and services to be offered at the tennis center as well as meet the pros, test equipment and book courts.

A grand opening ceremony for the community is scheduled for the evening followed by the first round of matches for the USTA Clocktower Classic Wheelchair Tournament.

“We are excited to invite the community to showcase this beautiful facility funded by SPLOST dollars,” said Tom Daglis, Executive Director at Rome Tennis Center at Berry College. “We hope everyone can join us for the festivities to truly see how the tennis center will not only be a place for tournaments, but a place for our local tennis players and families to enjoy daily.”

The Rome Tennis Center at Berry College boasts a total of 60 courts on a 30 acre site. It is comprised of USTA standard, asphalt tennis courts and includes six NCAA regulation courts, three center courts for tournament and collegiate play, and one exhibition court. All courts have lighting and access to shade structures. There are 8 permanent 36’ courts for 10&Under Tennis, plus 10 have blended lines to introduce the sport to children.

The 3,846-square-foot, lodge-like clubhouse is a focal point of the facility. One key element of the clubhouse is the 2,256 sq. ft. tennis porch that overlooks “main event” courts and NCAA-regulation courts. The entire terraced design of the facility is ADA accessible and has wider entry ways to accommodate sport chairs for wheelchair tennis.

The building of the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College was completed on-time one year after groundbreaking. Cevian Design was contracted for the facility design and New South Construction was contracted to build the facility. The project was funded by the 2013 special-purpose local-option sales tax (SPLOST). Berry College generously donated the land for the tennis center.

The Rome Tennis Center at Berry College was made possible through a public/private partnership involving officials from the City of Rome, Berry College, Coosa Valley Tennis Association, Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce, and Greater Rome Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The facility is conveniently located at 100 Matchpoint Way, on the Armuchee Connector adjacent to the loop road by Mount Berry Square Mall and central to Birmingham, Atlanta and Chattanooga. Get directions
